Sustainable Communities

Conservation succeeds when the people who live closest to wildlife and wild places have the opportunity to thrive alongside them.

Around the world, communities are often the first to experience the challenges of protecting natural resources. Farmers may face crop loss from wildlife. Families may rely on forests, rivers, or coastal waters for their livelihoods. As habitats shrink and environmental pressures grow, lasting conservation requires solutions that recognize both the needs of people and the needs of the natural world.

The Brodsky Charitable Foundation believes that strong communities are essential to a healthy planet. We support efforts that help people become active partners in conservation—through education, local leadership, sustainable livelihoods, and practical tools for living alongside wildlife.

This can take many forms: programs that help communities protect wildlife corridors; education that encourages the next generation to value nearby ecosystems; or initiatives that reduce conflict between people and animals. The most effective solutions respect local knowledge and give communities a meaningful role in shaping the future of the places they call home.

When conservation creates opportunity, it becomes more sustainable. When communities see the value of protecting wildlife and habitats, they are better positioned to safeguard them over time.

By investing in people as well as places, we hope to support a future in which communities, wildlife, and natural landscapes can flourish together.
